A Guy Named John

Bethany and I came to Washington today. We had to get some stinkin’ early, but that wouldn’t have been so bad had I not only received 1 hour of sleep. I made a dumb decision to try and work late the night before a trip. Stupid Shay..
bethany-facecover.jpg
Anyways.. I loaded some pics up for everyone that Bethany and I took around Seattle today. I basically spent a majority of my time with Bethany’s dad because her and her mom were shopping for wedding dresses. If you’re a girl you’re probably wondering if she actually got one. Well…. she did. I didn’t see it because I’d rather see her the day of. I’m stoked. bethanys-converse.jpgBut while Bethany’s dad and I were walking around Everett, Washington, we met a sort of homeless guy on the street that just wanted to talk to us. His name was John. He basically told us his life story and explained everything that had happened in the past couple of weeks. He told us that he was in the military for 26 years and he was living off a $2000/month pension. Then he proceeded to tell us that there are 52 books in the Bible (which there is actually 66). He was a funny guy. I don’t know why I met him. But I know that it was a sad time. Bethany’s dad gave him $5 to help him out, but he was really turned off to talking about anything real, like Jesus Christ. So pray for John..

Alright, I need to get some sleep. It’s been a long day and we have a big day tomorrow. We’re actually up here doing wedding planning for our Dec. 17th wedding. We’re getting excited about it, but there’s so much to do. I’m off to bed. Enjoy the pics.

Music For The Soul

Shaycam from the beaches of Monterery, CA. I took this pic a few months back when I went to Spirit West Coast to see my friends in Dizmas.
sandyshaycam.jpg

Bethany told me she wouldn’t mind moving to Monterey some day. I laugh at those kind of comments because I really don’t know a person today that wouldn’t mind moving there either. It’s nothing against Bethany; I’m sure it’s a great place to live, yet a bit expensive. Anyways..

I realized today that I don’t comment a ton of the amount of music I listen to. I seriously listen to music like a crazy person. My friend Zach supplies me with bands by the dozens and I spend a good 3 months listening to those before talking to him about more that I can take on. But today I am thinking about something I am actually listening to as I type. Whether or not you’ve seen, like, or don’t want to see the movie Elizabethtown, you need to buy the soundtrack. I’m serious. I’m really enjoying it. A little Tom Petty, a little Eastmountainsouth, and a little bit of Elton John. It doesn’t matter whether you like the artists, you can just like the songs. Quite honestly you might need to go out on a limb right now in your music listening lifestyle. So many times I talk to kids and they have no understanding of the music in the world. I feel sad for them. There is so much out there. There’s something for everyone. The internet provides numerous outlets for such endeavors. Allow me to help you.

If you enjoy some serious 80’s music. Goto ACCURadio and click on “Flock of Eighties” towards the bottom left. In a matter of seconds you will be listening to favorite tunes which should last all day because there are no commercials and its free (no stupid sign up!). (ok seriously, this site is incredible. You have to check it out)

If you want the more band and independent feel go to PureVolume and find the style you want and start searching for the bands that fit your mold. I’ve discovered some great bands a this site and it’s fun for the whole family!

And if you are looking to do a checking accoun clean out, then dowload Itunes and start buying music and suppor those artists that you listen to everyday. Even the ones you don’t tell anyone about. (for its its Hanson with their ssong “A Song To Sing”… what can I say? It’s a good song..call it a guilty pleasure)

So… that should get you started. Listen to more music. I mean.. its just good. Music makes me happy, and maybe you’ll find something that makes you happy too.

The Ground Is Wet

waterleaf.jpg
It’s been raining the past 2 days. I love it. California doesn’t always get a lot of rain, but when it does it comes in waves. Yesterday there was flash flooding and even power outages in certain areas because of the thunder storm that has come in this week. But, I was able to capture this picture before I entered the roadway.

I’m actually in class right now. We’re getting prepared for our senior test which is a competency exam of our Bible knowledge. It’s intense. 3 hours long on a Saturday and is only 3 weeks away. I’m scared..

You know what I don’t like… I bite my nails. When I write it out it doesn’t sound very good, but for whatever reason I just do. I probably learned it from my dad. He bit his nails too. We tried to stop when I was growing up, but we never really did. Even when I see him on occasion he asks me about how I am doing with my nail-biting.

I made some of my own shirts last night. It was one of the first times I have actually made my own design on my own shirt. I think it looks sweet and I’m stoked about it. Anyways, I gotta go, we’re getting serious in our class. Go get some coffee before you come back and read my next blog.

Shaycam… It Wasn’t Really Gone.

ok.. so maybe Shaycam.com is back. And there’s nothing I can do about it. I love writing on shaycam.com. I can’t help it. Blame my mind. Ok.. that was stupid.

It rained a lot today. Pretty much flashing flooding. I loved every second of it. There was a time in between 3:30 and 4:00pm where I want to a small locally owned coffee shop and sat down in a nice leather chair and had a latte from a porcelain mug. I just watched the clouds and rain and it was amazing. There was no wireless internet, no cell-phone calls, just relaxing. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Maybe you should get and try it sometime. Don’t go to Starbucks, try the little guy. You never know, you might be impressed by the pace.

What’s funny is that I am sitting in Starbucks right now, but I am in another world. My Ipod is in my head and Incubus is explaining some weird scientific philosophy to me. I didn’t buy a drink, I just came to “work” on my laptop. The ground is still wet outside and the lights from the cars are reflecting off the pavement. It makes for a difficult driving situation, but it also makes for a Seattle like evening.. which I love. There’s a few college students here. They’re all doing what I should be doing… studying (except maybe one guy.. he’s using his laptop in a big fluffy chair).

Life was slower today. It was 6pm at 2pm. That is to say the clouds were so dark it always seemed later than it actually was. Yet, business still went on as usual. But I think I’ve had my fill for one blogging evening. I’ll be in Seattle in a few days for some wedding planning. When I get back I’ll load a few pics up for you kids. Hope all is well…

Goodbye… Shaycam…

These are the last few minutes of a site that has served me well. Though I have neglected it many times before, it’s time to go. I feel like I should write the obituary, but I’m not the best writer. We all know that.

Shaycam.com has been a place for friends, family, and others who just randomly saw my site on the back of my car. I have enjoyed… but life must go on.

Bethany and I are becoming one (to use the Biblical language, we’re becoming “one flesh”). Leaving and cleaving. Soon I will not be by myself anymore. And she should be able to share her heart with you all also. At least that’s the plan for now. So I hope you kids enjoy ShayandBethany.com. I think it’ll be fun, exciting, abnormal, etc. I’m tired. Time to go.

All the best,
Shaycam

I Remember…

911.jpg
I saw this on someone’s car today. I took the pic because of how intense it really is. The reason why you can’t see the flag is because it got faded. I mean, its just we’re supposed to remember what happened, yet it’s kind of fading. It’s not as intense as the first year where there was a ton of media attention at ground zero. Now the hurricane has become the greater news. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s just the facts. The fact is, I grew up in America. The next best thing has already happened. I mean “best thing” to say that something greater has come. Maybe it’s just that time has passed. I don’t know. But it’s getting late. Let’s talk about something else.

I bought a new cell phone the other day. Got one of the Razr phone’s from Cingular. I like it.
School has been going well. Just started a few weeks ago. Not stoked on it, but it’s going.

Furthermore, I’m changing shaycam.com in the next 10 days. It’s going to be shayandbethany.com from now on. She’ll probably be posting at times, but I’ll still write in, don’t worry about that. I guess when you become one as a couple you also become one as a website. I’ll see you kids on the flipside.

Pardon Me

cabbage-fields.jpg
I kind of wish this was my field.

Not that I really want the job of taking care of it all and making sure it stays straight and nice, but I want its beauty. It’s kind of like I want it outside my bedroom window. You know what I mean. Like waking up and seeing the ocean, that’s sort of what this is like. Maybe it’s just me.

So pardon me.. I’ve been gone for a while. Maybe too long. I’ve learned some stuff though, you gotta give me that. You think it’ll ever stop, you know, the whole learning thing. It’s not like we get up everyday thinking, “.. I wish I could learn something new and exciting..”No, we just get up, do what we know is normal (ie. shower, get dressed, go to work, see some stuff, get pajamas on, go to bed). But I must say, I’ve been learning some amazing things. Whether it be life, business, art, etc. my life is a learning process.

For instance, I learned that you can be the “middle man” in business and make money. I learned that gas is really expensive these days. I learned that sleeping 10 hours for two days is probably not healthy. I’ve learned that there are some things we just can’t do. I don’t know, they might seem dumb to you, but I learned them.

I guess I’m rambling. Right now I can hear the sirens outside. Probably and ambulance or police car on their way to help someone. I mean, those guys never stop. It’s not like they close for the holidays or their hours are 9-5. Nope, it doesn’t work like that. We have to remember that people still get hurt, sick, punched, kicked, driven in to even after we go to bed. On the subject, I saw a car the other day that had flipped off the edge of the freeway, that was intense. My fianced was telling me she saw a semi truck run right into the side of car and it literally made the car look like an accordian against the curb.

Well.. off to bed. I hope you don’t get sick. I fear I might get sick soon. My schedule is going to change in about a week, and I’m a little nervous about change sometimes. Especially when it involves 18 units, minimum sleep, and just reading things that I wouldn’t normally desire to read (.. if you didn’t get that, I’m talking about college. Ok. I’m spent.

Double Tall Vanilla Mocha

That’s just what I’m drinking right now. It’s one of my favorite drinks. I usually am not the sweet coffee drinker, but today is a different day. Not because something crazy is going on, but because it’s just another day. I woke up this morning before my alarm went off. And it wasn’t just like 10 minutes before, it was an hour before. I didn’t really understand why. But I just got up anyways.

After taking a shower and getting ready for the day, I opened my Bible to Psalm 111 and 112. I heard these verses preached a two weeks ago at church by a guest speaker. I have been impacted by them and that sermon since then. The whole point of Psalm 111 is that the Lord is worthy to praised, and the reasons why. And then Psalm 112 talks about how we know the Lord need to fear God. I just read through these passages a few times and began to just pray. The past couple of weeks I found myself starting to become almost distant from reading my Bible and praying, and that is usually the beginning of trouble. Once I finished praying I picked up the only Puritan book I have called, “The Godly Man’s Picture.” It is truly a great book and I would suggest it to any Believer looking to understand their stance before God and what looks like. That was just my morning.. now I’m at work drinking my mocha and waiting for clock to get close to 10:00am so I can go to work.

Work isn’t my favorite place, I’ll be honest. Enough said. Well, I must get ready to spend the next 6 hours counting money and give my Starbucks store a bath (cleaning). It seems today that my blog will be done before my mocha, but I guess that’s ok, I have a few sips left.

You Remember When…

“You remember pagers?! Oh man… I can’t believe that.. what was the point of that?..”
“.. You remember when you actually had to go to the store to buy stuff.. oh man.. I just buy all my groceries, music, clothes online.. so sweet..”
“You remember when cell phones were the size of a public phone booth.. that’s hilarious..”
“… You remember radio…? ANSWER: “.. no.. what the heck is radio..?..”
“.. oh man.. what about dial up internet?…”.. “.. no, never heard of it..”

Right now I’m sitting in Hollywood. Yeah, that’s in California. Have you heard of it? It’s like 100 degrees outside, but I am here with my fiance because she’s getting her hair cut. We get our hair cut in Hollywood, what can we say. I love this place. It’s called “Rudy’s Barber Shop.” haha, the name probably throws you off, it’s not what you think. check out www.rudysbarbershop.com to get a small taste. I found this place when I was in Seattle a few years back I haven’t really had my hair cut anywhere else since. Anyways.. Bethany is going short on the hair right now. We’re totally stoked about it. It’s one of those joint experiences that I’m sure we’ll have more and more as we approach marriage and after marriage.

But.. getting back.. You’re probably wondering what all those questions and answer were about in the beginning of this blog. Well.. let me tell you. Rudy’s is actually located inside of a hotel called The Standard. I got here, turned on my computer, and I was online. We live in a new age my friends. I’m not kidding.. have you noticed. I mean, our kids are not going to know what tape players are.. I’m serious.. this isn’t a joke. I mean.. what the heck.. Think about it.. do you kids remember LaserDisc technology. That was seriously stupid, yikes.. what were they thinking. But we have to realize that this was never possible. I have my laptop open in the middle of a barber shop! It’s great.. I love it. I love the internet, it makes me happy. We can communicate in ways people can’t even think about. oh man.. I’m stoked, you’re stoked, we’re all stoked.

Last thing. Emblem graphics ordered new business cards last week. they are hot. no kidding. We got square business cards. I know you’re gonna love em’. Ok.. As the hair gets shorter.. I’ve gotta go.

Emblem Graphics

Ok, I’m not sure how much I have told you kids about my new company. Let me tell you about it.

I have started a graphic design company and I am stoked about it. I’ve been so busy doing that, that I really haven’t had time to sit down and write any blogs. But seriously, it’s freakin’ legit.

So, it’s called Emblem Graphics. I love the name personally, but I am probably a little biased (bias? does it have an “ed” ending?, nevermind). Anyways, we can silk-screen t-shirts, make customized auto-decals, print business cards, 1 inch buttons (bands love those), and etc. It’s seriously so much fun. I have two partners that I have gone into business with and their names are Justin and Sean. Seriously cool guys.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Shay.. c’mon man… we know how not cool you are at updating.. how could you co-run and co-own a business… and better yet.. is it even real…” Well, let me just say it this way. We just finished a 300 t-shirt job for a band, including 1000 buttons, 1000 cards (w/ their picture one it), a banner, and some decals. It was awesome. Secondly, today, we had to turn our taxes to the government. That was intense, but all that to say, we’re for reals.

So, if you need t-shirts made, or some stickers for your car or something like that, or maybe some sweet 1 inch buttons for your promotion…. let me know. I can help you.

More information will be available on www.emblemgraphics.com , ok? sweet.. peace.
